Social Booking: The New Tendency

You recognize it for the icons that appear under the new information published on the net. It is a way to keep your favorite websites and content in an organized and online manner, easy to administrate and also with the possibility to share it with the rest of the internet users.

Until not long ago, when you surfed the web and you came to a page of your liking, or useful information, you would use the bookmarks or favorites in your navigator to organize your online sources. But as Internet integrates itself more in our lives, that practice of saving favorites is not productive. If we file something in our archives but one of the resources serves a purpose in more than one field, we must save it various times, one for each are of interest. And also, if you need to count on that “data” and you travel, you won’t have it saved on your personal computer, for example.

That is where the concept of social bookmarking arises, which means make your favorites public on an online platform instead of having them on your computer, and access them from anywhere that has an internet connection. You can also share your “favorites” with anybody that is interested in the same topic, and of course benefit from the findings of others.

There are many social bookmarking services: in them, thousands of people save their bookmarks or selections, which allows to see the tendencies and which are the most popular themes, tools and websites. Also, these websites and blogs promote that readers add comments to the classification, which redounds in a greater exhibition of the note.

If we could simplify the process in 3 steps, it would be like this:

1. Register
2. Indicate your favorites or save them on your page
3. Put them in Common or Present them to the community

The social bookmarks are more popular everyday. You can familiarize yourself with the most famous ones just by clicking on the icons that appear below our news. You can find the complete list by clicking on +more. Depending on the language, some may have more published than in other languages. (See graph).
