Ebooks: a new way to access information?

For a few years, publishers and journalists were forseeing e-books, substituting step by step our old dog-eared pages for magnificient readers! But before the machine was set, an other phenomenon occured: online books.

Due to the 4th International Ebook Fair, staring from July 4th to August 4th, we had the chance to underline the impact ebooks have on organizations.

Nowadays, thanks to diferent projects, such as "World Public Library" or the Gutenberg Project, you can download more than 2 000 000 PDF books. Thus, it is definitly easy to get into culture for free.

Indeed, besides technical progress, ebooks offer affirmative action to information. No use to set up libraries, the material is available on the Internet. Administration fees are reduced and you can improve your knowledges.

For a NGO using ICT, it's worth enquiring about reading systems and act in this direction. The Internet offers a huge bunch of possibilities to access information. The Gutenberg project's motto is clear : "smash the barriers of illetrism and ignorance". A motto that deals with NGO's most important preoccupations. Encouraging teaching and improving education are the first steps to develop on permanent basis a country.

Today, we do have the technical approach to struggle against unfairness.  It's our mission to make it possible in our society.
