Tips to perform a better search with Google
Let’s see first some basic concepts that will help us on our first approach to Google.
- Google uses all the search terms you write on the search box to search.
- For example: Volunteering citizenship active
- Google ignores the common words and characters. If you want to include words of this kind (as http.com, of, in, it, etc) in your search, you have to precede them of the sign "+".
- For example: Company + .com
- We can exclude a word of the search writing a sign "-" immediately before the term that we want to exclude (making sure to leave a space in between).
- For example: Volunteering - Europe
- To look for complete phrases, write them within quotation marks doubles. This search will be of great help to look for sayings or specific names.
- For example: “Non Profit Organizations”
- Google does not use partial searches, but it looks exactly for the words that we have introduced
- For example: Organ and Organization give completely different results
- Google search does not differentiate upper and lower case. The searches also do not distinguish accents nor the letter Ñ in Spanish.
- For example: in French Réunions or Reunions will give the same results
- If you want to look for a word or another one, use "OR" or the symbol "|".
- For example: Shoe or Clothes shop
- Another example: Shoe | Clothes shop
We can also use the Advanced search that the own search engine includes. Click on this link and a new page will be opened where we will be able to specify terms as the file format, the language, the date, the domain, the rights of use...
